Queer Ecology Walk - Atlanta, Georgia

Queer Ecology Walk - Atlanta, Georgia

September 7, 2025 — 10:00 am - 12:30 pm ET
Last day to register: September 5, 2025

Let's explore the world of queer ecology on a 1.3-mile walk through a forested wetland in Decatur, Georgia!

Your local TVOP volunteers are partnering up with Andrew Hogan (they/he, @ahogan235), a science communicator with over ten years of experience in environmental and conservation education. Andrew’s goal is to connect people to nature in new and thought-provoking ways and encourage people to explore the world around them.

Learn about non-heteronormative animals, plants that challenge what it means to be a plant, and more! There are so many stories of nature that have been overlooked, cast aside, or ignored that highlight the diversity in the world around us. Queer Ecology is not just gay animals, but a means of understanding that challenges what we've always been taught about nature.

During this walk, we will stop and chat about some backyard examples of Queer Ecology, connect with one another, and enjoy time in nature. Details, including exact location, what to bring, and more will be shared after registration.

A note on accessibility: This walk includes stairs, uneven terrain, and an overall 29 ft elevation change. It is mainly flat. No restrooms on site. Reach out to us for more details as needed!

We ask folks under the age of 18 to please register themselves and an adult to accompany them. This event is queer and trans centered and led and is open to all ages and allies. If you require a service dog to attend, please let us know and we’ll collaborate with you on how to keep you both comfortable and hydrated at the event.

  • Information for our land acknowledgment was gathered from nativeland.ca, which provides an estimate of original indigenous land occupation, but does not take into account migratory patterns or movement of the many surrounding communities. We recognize the historical complexity of indigenous movement across the land, and honor with gratitude the many, many surviving native nations whose land we benefit from in our work to diversify the outdoors.
